A Community Tested: Eight Injured in Dougherty County Ambulance Rollover, Including Newborn, But All Expected to Recover

Early on a quiet Saturday morning, just as the sun began rising over Dougherty County, Georgia, an accident occurred that startled both residents and emergency responders. At approximately 7:10 a.m., an ambulance carrying multiple passengers, including a newborn child, was involved in a rollover crash at the intersection of Pine Avenue and Monroe Street.

The collision, which left eight people injured, could easily have become a tragedy. Yet, in a remarkable twist of fate, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening. Instead, what unfolded was a story of resilience, professionalism, and relief—a moment in which a community’s first responders were reminded of both the fragility of life and the strength of collective response.

The Accident and Immediate Response

According to officials, the Dougherty County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulance had three staff members and two patients on board at the time of the incident. Along with the patients and medical personnel, additional individuals connected to the transport were also present, making a total of eight people involved.

Among them was a newborn child—a detail that understandably drew heightened public attention. The infant, though shaken by the event, was quickly stabilized and transported to the hospital for careful monitoring. Doctors confirmed that this was a precautionary step, not a result of serious injury.

As soon as the crash occurred, emergency protocols were activated. Witnesses recalled the sound of sirens only minutes later as multiple units arrived on the scene. Police officers directed traffic away from the intersection while fire and rescue teams worked to carefully extract and secure the injured. Within a short time, all eight individuals had been transported to nearby hospitals for further evaluation.

James Gibney, Director of Dougherty County EMS, released a statement later in the morning, underscoring both gratitude and relief. “We are thankful that no severe injuries resulted from this accident,” he said. “Our EMS personnel responded quickly and professionally, and we appreciate the assistance of law enforcement and hospital staff who stepped in to continue care.”
