New Poll Shows How Americans View Melania Trump Among First Ladies

Melania Trump’s time as First Lady has been closely watched, much like her husband’s presidency. While she has made select public appearances, she has largely maintained a private profile. Now, a new poll reveals how Americans view her performance compared to other first ladies. Before returning to the White House for a second term, Melania said her role would look different, dividing her time between Washington, Palm Beach, and New York while continuing her duties.

She has carried on her “Be Best” initiative but has also focused heavily on a documentary about her life. Amazon reportedly paid $40 million for the film, released in January, which received mixed reviews. Melania said she was proud of the final result regardless of public opinion.

As midterm elections approach and President Donald Trump faces polling challenges, attention has turned to Melania’s public standing. A recent YouGov survey of 2,255 adults found that she currently holds a -16 approval rating. That places her below former First Lady Jill Biden (-9) but slightly above Hillary Clinton (-17). Several past first ladies scored significantly higher.

Nancy Reagan polled at +25, Lady Bird Johnson at +23, Rosalynn Carter at +32, Barbara Bush at +21, Michelle Obama at +21, and Laura Bush at +19. The highest rating went to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, who received +56 in the survey. The poll also showed that Melania’s approval remains stronger among Republican voters than Democrats.
