He was the first child of Jacqueline “Jackie” Stallone, a women’s professional wrestling promoter and astrology enthusiast, and Francesco “Frank” Stallone Sr., a hairdresser and beauty business owner who immigrated from Italy in the 1930s. His mother’s heritage included French and Ukrainian Jewish roots.

He grew up with a younger brother, Frank Stallone, who went on to have his own career in acting and music. Although many know him as Michael Sylvester Gardenzio Stallone, his earliest given name was Tyrone, inspired by actor Tyrone Power. His father later insisted on the name Sylvester. As a child, he was nicknamed “Binky,” but eventually preferred “Mike” or “Michael” in school.

A difficult birth led to nerve damage on the left side of his face, causing partial paralysis and slurred speech — traits that later became part of his signature screen presence.
