The news hit like a punch to the chest.
Dennis Haskins, the man who made Principal Belding a second dad to millions, is gone at 75 — and fans are reeling. Tributes are pouring in from stunned co-stars, devastated friends, and heartbroken viewers who grew up in the halls of Bayside High. What they’re revealing about the man

For a generation raised on Saturday morning TV, Dennis Haskins was more than a sitcom character; he was the steady, caring adult in a chaotic teen world. As Principal Richard Belding, he blended authority with warmth, turning a stock role into a deeply human figure who could scold, listen, and ultimately stand up for his students when it mattered most. That sincerity wasn’t an act. Off-screen, colleagues remember a man who stayed late at fan conventions, signed every autograph, and treated strangers like old friends.

Long before and long after Bayside, Haskins worked, hustled, and created — from promoting concerts to building a rich résumé of TV and film appearances. Yet no matter how far he traveled from that fictional high school, he carried its fans with him, grateful for the unlikely legacy of a goofy, big-hearted principal. Now, as the world whispers “Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?” one last time, his impact lives on in the comfort, nostalgia, and quiet guidance he gave to millions who never met him, but felt like they knew him.
