The man who made office misery funny is gone. Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, turned corporate frustration into a shared language for readers around the world, giving everyday workers something rare: the feeling of being understood. His death at 68 closes a remarkable chapter, but behind the familiar cubicles and biting jokes lies a distinctive and enduring

Born in 1957, Scott Adams spent years working in corporate offices before transforming those experiences into the comic strip that defined his career. When Dilbert launched in 1989, it drew its humor from a world millions recognized: bewildering management decisions, workplace frustrations, and the distance between business promises and everyday reality. Adams found material in routines that could otherwise feel exhausting, making the ordinary absurdities of office life the foundation of an internationally familiar creation.

Adams died in 2026 at the age of 68, leaving a lasting mark on newspaper comics and popular culture. His best-known work offered more than a quick joke; it gave readers a way to recognize and laugh at the systems surrounding them. Through Dilbert, the workplace became a stage for satire that crossed borders. That ability to turn shared frustration into recognizable humor remains central to his contribution to cartooning and to his work’s appeal.
