My wedding day with Greg was everything I had ever dreamed of. His parents had spent a fortune making the celebration unforgettable, from the beautiful decorations to the luxurious reception. Greg couldn’t take his eyes off me. Throughout the day, he whispered sweet words in my ear, held my hand, and kept reminding me how lucky he was to have me as his wife. I thought I was about to begin the happiest chapter of my life.
When the reception finally ended, Greg took me to a beautiful house his parents had arranged for us to stay in. It was our first night as husband and wife, and I could hardly contain my excitement. The moment we entered the master bedroom, Greg smiled, walked toward me, and gently began unzipping my wedding dress. Everything felt romantic and perfect. I turned away to help him remove the dress, completely unaware that my life was about to change in a matter of seconds.
But the moment the wedding dress slipped to the floor and I turned around, Greg’s smile disappeared. His eyes widened, his lips began trembling, and he took several steps backward. For a few seconds, he couldn’t say a word. Then he suddenly shouted, “No! No, no, no! This can’t be happening!” Before I could even understand what was wrong, he dropped to his knees, covering his face with both hands.
“OH MY GOD! WHO ON EARTH ARE YOU?” he screamed, his voice breaking with fear and disbelief.
I stood there completely confused, asking him what he meant. I reminded him that I was his wife, the woman he had just married in front of hundreds of guests. But Greg refused to look at me. He kept shaking his head, repeating that this was impossible. Then he finally raised his eyes and pointed at me with a trembling finger. “You look exactly like her,” he whispered. “I thought she was gone forever. I thought I would never see that face again.”
My heart began racing. I had no idea who he was talking about or why my appearance had frightened him so terribly. I tried to approach him, but he quickly grabbed his clothes and rushed toward the bedroom door. I begged him not to leave, but he was already crying uncontrollably. Before walking out, he turned around and said something that made my blood run cold: “You need to tell me the truth about what happened twenty years ago.”
I stood frozen as the bedroom door slammed shut. Moments later, I heard his car engine start and watched through the window as my new husband drove away into the night. I was still wearing my wedding jewelry, standing beside my wedding dress, trying to understand how a perfect wedding could turn into a nightmare. Then my phone began ringing. It was an unknown number, and the message that appeared on the screen contained just seven words: “Your husband finally discovered who you really are.”
My hands began shaking as I opened the attached photograph. It showed a little girl standing beside a woman who looked exactly like me. But what terrified me most was the date written beneath the picture. It was taken twenty years earlier, long before I had ever met Greg. Suddenly, I realized that the man I had just married might know something about my past that even I didn’t know. And whatever secret connected us was powerful enough to make him run away crying on our wedding night…
